About Marc Brown
Best known as Arthurs creator, author/illustrator Marc Brown has been working with the beloved aardvark for more than 20 years. Born one night when Brown was telling a bedtime story to his son. Arthur soon evolved into the book Arthurs Nose, published in 1976. Browns own childhood and the experiences of his three children are his main inspirations for the Arthur stories. Grandma Thora is based on Browns own grandmother, who encouraged his artwork and bequeathed him her gift for weaving imaginative stories.
Trained at the Cleveland Art Institute, Marc Brown has created over 100 picture books for children. Before his current success with Arthur, however, Marc worked at many jobs, including stints as a truck driver, sodajerk, actor, chicken farmer, television art director, short order cook, and college professor! Marc currently lives in the Boston area with his wife, illustrator/author and psychologist Laurie Krasny Brown, and their daughter. Marc and Laurie are the creators of the pathbreaking nonfiction Dino Life Guides for Families series.
